Hjallanes hiking loop

From Guesthouse Skalafell starts the hiking "Hjallanes loop" that is inside Vatnajokull National park. The whole loop is about 8 km long and takes between 3-4 hours. To go up to Skalafellsjokull and go back takes about 2 hours. For more information about the hike please contact us.

Jokulsarlon

Jokulsarlon - The Glacier lagoon don't need any description by itself. Simply must see place when you travel to Iceland. Jokulsarlon is located about 35 km west from Guesthoue Skalafell and takes about 20 minutes to drive. Jokulsarlon is also a meeting point for all sort of glacial activities.

Northern lights

Guesthouse Skálafell is located in a rural area so we are perfectly located to see the Northern Lights. If the forecast is good you will most likely be able to see the lights from your room window or just outside the room. The best time to see the northern lights are from November-March.

Vatnajokull National Park

Did you know that Vatnajokull National Park is Europes largest national park? Guesthouse Skalafell is one of a very few private properties inside the national park. In the national park are plenty of things to do and see. Please visiti their website for further information:

Skaftafell

Skaftafell National Park was established in 1967 and is now part of Vatnajokull National park. There are endless things to see and a perfect spot to visit if you are a nature lover. We espescially recommend the hike to see Svartifoss waterfall. Skaftafell is about 90 km west from Guesthouse Skálafell - about 1 hour drive.

Vestrahorn & Stokksnes

Vestrahorn on the Stokksnes peninsula is one of our most beautiful mountains in Iceland. With steep cliffs rising from the sides of a stunning lagoon, and black sand beaches all around.  Vestrahorn & Stokksnes are located about 45km east from Guesthouse Skálafell - about 35 minutes to drive.

Heinabergslon

Skaftafell National Park was established in 1967 and is now part of Vatnajokull National park. There are endless things to see and a perfect spot to visit if you are a nature lover. We espescially recommend the hike to see Svartifoss waterfall. Skaftafell is about 90 km west from Guesthouse Skálafell - about 1 hour drive.

Höfn í Hornafirði

Höfn in Hornafjörður is the next town located from Guesthouse Skalafell. It is about 42 km east from our property. We especially recommend the swimming pool there and to take a walk around the coast line. From there you get a beautiful view of the area around the town. You will also find there some nice restaurants, supermarket, gas station etc.
